In better seas, hoist it sails now,
This, the little vessel, of my genius, here, now, here, now
Behind a sea so cruel
Behind a sea so cruel
I saw beside me an old man
Worthy of so much reverence his look, his look
As rays of the four stars
That him I saw as the sun
Who are you? Who? Fled away from eternal prison
Who guided you? Or been your lamp out of the night profound
Out of that night even makes black the infernal valley?
Out of that night...
This one has never his last evening seen
But by his folly was so near to, near to
Little time was there to turn
Little time was there to turn
To rescue him, and the other way was none
That this to which I have myself betaken
To rescue me, and the other way was none
That this to which he has himself betaken
The throng which still remained there
Al round about them gazing
This people lifted up their faces and ask
Where the way is, unto the mountain?
Souls saw me, saw me draw breath
Aware that I was alive
Souls saw me, saw me draw breath
I had just fled, in the way to purgatory!!
The hell’s so real
So real
The hell’s so real
So real
The hell’s so real
So real

This is the very pinnacle of the band's work. The amount of great songs is staggering.
They don't experiment excessively, but what they do sticks forcefully in my mind. I can't single out a single best song, cause there's too much of them - The Cavernous Deep, Nonextence, Grit, Among Ashes and Monoliths and even Black waters have all set places in several of my playlists. This album hit me off guard, and it hit strong. One of the best in 2021 steeplejack
